The Oldest Irish College In the World
The oldest Irish College in the world is at Salamanca, Spain. Its rector, Very Rev. Father G'Doherty has just visited his native land. He is quite a young man to occupy so distinguished a position. A native of County Mayo, he was educated at Maynooth, and was for a time professor in the diocesan seminary' at Ballaghadereen: Two years ago he was nominated by the Irish Bishops for his'present position. He has been decorated by the King of Spam with the insignia oft a com-
of improvement and rehabilitation, with a King universally popular .and a beautiful young Queen who has caught the aflection of the - people, and, in- fact, with the goodwill of -all .nations in its favor and the traditions of a glorious past to inspire it, there is undoubtedly a great future opening out before the' Spanish nation. The Spaniards are a brave, a generous, and a gallant race, and I believe are destined yet ".to play a distinguished part in . the history of the world's progress.'
