St. Joseph's School, Temuka

(From our own correspondent.) On the occasion of the distribution of prizes to the pupils of St. Joseph's School, Temuka, the Rev. Father Kerley addressed a few words to the children, encouraging them in their efforts to excel. He hoped they would enjoy their holidays, would be careful in their behaviour, and would come back to school determined to try and do even better than in the past. The prizes about to be distributed were not as numerous as the Sisters would have liked, and were awarded chiefly for good conduct, but he hoped they would act as an incentive to future efforts. The following is the prizelist :— Standard Vll.— Good conduct, Willie Bebrens. Christian Doctrine, Adelaide Behrens. Standard Vl.— Regular attendance, Irene Wareing, Teresa Williams, Francis Twomey. Standard V.— Christian Doctrine, Mary Sughrue ; regular attendance, Katie Scanncll, Katie Greelish. Standard IV.— Good conduct, Julia Collins ; Christian Doctrine, Julia Collins ; regular attendance, Harry Allen. Standard lll.— Good conduct, Joseph Spillane. Christian Doctrine, John Collins ; regular attendance, Cyril Moran. Standard ll.— Regular attendance, Owen Carr. Standard I. — Regular attendance, 1 Maggie Daly. Primer 111. — Regular attendance, J. Dwycr. Primer ll.— Regular attendance, Irene Sughrue, Nora Scannell, Denis Croxford. Primer I.— Regular attendance, Hugh Brosnan. The dramatic and musical entertainment by the pupils of St. Joseph's /School was given in the Volunteer Hall. An excellent programme had ibeen arranged, and there was a large attendance of the parents and friends of the children. All the items went excellently, and the whole entertainment reflected the greatest credit on the performers, and also gave practical proof of the great care and energy expended by the -.Sisters in their training. Applause was frequent, the efforts of the children being fully appreciated by the audience. The following was the programme :— Overture (pianoforte tfuet, 3 pianos), Misses Daily, L. Burke, J. Harrison, Zoe Gillespie, A. Storey, and L. Demuth ; action song, junior pupils ; dialogue, JMisses N. Allen, M. Burke, and Master D. Mcßride ; duet, Miss Nora Scannell, and Master D. Croxford ; action song, Boys ; duet, _ Misses A. Storey, A. Horgan, N. Allen, and M. Sughrue ; solo (vocal), Master J. Horgan ; overture_ (pianoforte trio, 5 pianos), Misses K. Daily, Zoe Gilles-" pie, L. Demuth, K. Dwyer, Rose Leary, ' Eva Benbow, K. Anderson, Maude Wurin, F. Parke, Laurel Storey, Irene Radford, Mary Leary, Madge Cunnard, Masters A. Clinch and Stuart Radford ; trio (vocal), Misses A. Storey, Nellie Allen and Master W. Behrens ; action song, senior girls ; dialogue, Misses E. Williams, M. Burke, T. Williams, and Master George Spillane ; duet, Miss N. and Master H. Allen ; poi dance, Misses L. Grey, M. Rehu, M. Harper, M. fV Grey, L. Anaha, and Miss R. Rehu. Accompanist, Miss M. Tikao ; song in character, boys. The dramas, ' Gapper Grey's Will,' by the girls, and ' The Wrong Man,' by the boys, were nicely staged and acted. The following pupils took part in ' Gapper Grey's Will ' :— Misses L. Demuth, A. Behrens, N. Allen, A. Horgan, Zoe Gillespie, Julia Collins, Irene Wareing, and M.
