Wellington, Octolber 16.— The Department 'of Industries a-nd. Commerce has received the following cablegram from the Hign Comanissionerj dated London, 14th inst. :— 'There is a dull sale af all qualities of mutton, and an inclination to force s:ales. The average price to-day for Caivtertftiiry mutton is 3Jd per lb , for Nortii Island, 3&d per Mb , for Ri\er Plate, 3^d per lb. The lamb market is weak, inactive, and unsettled. The averabe price tot-day for New Zealand lamb (Canterbury brand) is 4\d per lb, and for brands other than Canterbury, 4-|d per lb. There is a better demand for beef. The average price today for hindquarters of New Zealand beef is from 3g)d per ft to 3£d per lb. 'The bu.tter market is firm, but the demand is only moderate owing to 1 high prices. Danish, 1235; Australian, Ills; Canadian 109s; Siberian, 105s. Canadian cheese, on spot, 57s to 58s per cwt (c.i.f ). The market is steady at the advance.
