The billiard tournament in connection with the club was concluded last week, Mr. W. H. Rooney being first awd Mr. C. Phillips second. The nuany fncn-ds of Mr. D. Phillips will be pleased to learn that he is making wry satisfactory progress at the hospital, after the serious operation performed last week. At a meetimg of St. Patrick's choir held last Sunday, Mr. RiicWard Phillips was appointed copiductlor in place* of Mr. M. Uaitdirre, wh>o has been transferred to Wellington. The selection is a very good one, as Mr. Phillips has always taken the keenest interest in musical matters in connection with the church. His Lordship Bishop Grimes has just concluded the visitation of this parish. On Suniday, September 24, the Sacrament of Confirmation was administered to 85 candidates, among whom were 20 adults. His Lordship gavo the pdefctge of totad abstinence to all the children., until they had reached the age of 21. On the following moirnmg his Lordship administered Confirmation in B runner. Twenty children presented themselves fox exaininiatyon/aMd acqyutbed thdnnsohes so well that his Lordship observed they were very clever little theologians. Last Sunday was Cathedral day, and although this is the fourth appeal m the parish of Greymouth, ami m spite of the local works on band, tins last collection exceeding £150. Tlw St Columlva Club invited the Bishop to a musical evening on Monday, and an conjunction with the Hibernian Society made a substantial offering towards the Cathedral fuind. lfe Lordship spake \ery highly of the spacious ami cheerful club rooms, of the handsome town, an<l the ugoruus life displayed by the siocieties of the parish, lie urged the young men to have a good word ami a welcome tor the many Catholic sailors who visit the port. Mr. Pcakui, Prime Minister of Australia, thanking the club for the motion carried at a recent meeting, justifying Australia's actum in excki'dvug the Japanese from Australia. It is the intention of the club to hava the lot,ter framed and lnun^ in the chib rooms.
