On Septejmb'or 5 the ordinary monthly meeting of the Hawse's Bay Philosophical Society took place, the business b^in^; a triple lecture on the macro-scope) by Drs. Leahy and H«nley,, and Rev. Dr. Kennedy, of Meanee. Dr. Leahy explained tihe theory of light and the object aimed at in tJtoe constfriictvon of lenses ; Dr. Henley dealt with microscopic plates and their preparation and the method of section cutting, whilst Rev. Dr. Kennedy described the process necessary for dc^ eloping pho'to^aphs of microscopic objects for lantiorn work, and exhibited the afl^araAus required.
