Wellington, September 11.—The Department of Industries ajnkt Commerce has received the following cablegram from the High Commissioner, dated Londion, 9th inst. :—The mutton market is slightly weaker, with lesa tiemjand, amd prices are irregular. The average pHLcq 'kHd'ay for dalnteflbjiry mutton is 4^d per Ib, and North Island mutton 3id per 11) (light weights), anld 3fd and; 3f d per ft respectively for hea.vy weights. The high prices are restricting business. The lamb market h)as declined, )as the season is too far advanceld. The market is aver-s<u>p lplied with heavy cjarcases of lamlb. The averaige price to-day for New Zealand lamb, Canterbiuiry Wrand, is s£d per lb ; for hrartds other than Canterbury, 5d per lb (light weights), and 4j|d per lb respectively for hoavy weights. The average price for hindquarters of New Zealand beef is 3£d per lb ; foreqiu'ajrters, 2£d per ft. The butter market is qluiet but steady. Buyers are not inclined to make forward purchases at present prices. Supplies wall be moderate. Danish, 120s'; Canadian, 109s ; Australian, 112s, nominal. The cheese market) is steady. Oajnjaidman, 56's per cwt. The hemip market is firm. The English wheat offerings aro very largie owing to the 'good crop, but the market is very <fuiet. New Zealand lo>nig-herried wheat, ex grajroary, per quarter of 49'61b, 29s M ; New Zealand s!hort-|rjfcfrrioicl wheat, on spot, per qiiarter of 496 ft, ex grajiiary, 28s Gd. Quotations are nominal. New Zealand! oats, shiort Sptarrowlwlls, ex granary, on spot, per iqiuartor >of 3841 b, 21s fid ;• New Zealand oats, Danish, ex gra-na/ry, o/n spot, ]>er quarter of 3201 b, 10s fid.
