London, August 19.— Wheat : The markets are inactive, and cargoes very quiet. Holders are asking 31s 10£ d for Australian afloat and 32s 2d fOT Victorian off the coast.

Butler is firm and unchanged. Daaisii is slightly in buyers' favor. Australian has all been cleared. Wed-del's annual report states that prospects point to a higher level in prices, probably on an averabe 7s 6d above last season.

Messrs. Donald Reid and Co. (Limited) report :—

We held ouir weekly auction sale of grain and produce at our stores on Monday, when we offered a full catalogue to a good attendance of buyers. There was good competition throughout, and almost the entire catalogue was cleared under the hammer at satisfactory prices. Values ruled as under — Oats— There is a good inquiry from shippers for lines of A and 15 grade, (Jartons or sparrowbills, and these find ready sale on arrival here. Othor sorts are also in fair demand, either locally or for export, and seed sorts have more attention. We quote: Choice srol line-;, 2s to 2s 3d , medium to good, Is lOd to 2s , prime milling, Is Btd to Is 9d ; good to best feed, Is 7M to Is BUI : inferior to medium, Is 5d to Is 7d per lnr.hel (sacks e^ctna). Wheat.— For milling qualities there has been little demand during tihe past week, and only moderate sales of these sorts ha\e been made. Fowl wheat is scarce and in good demand. We emote : Piime milling, 3s Id to 3s 2d , good do, 3s , "ft hole fowl wheat, 2s lOd to 2s lid , Iroken and damaged, 2s 6d to 2s 9"d per bushel (sacks extra). Potatoes —For Monday's market Ihcre were several consignments of Dorwents and white sorts, both of which met -with strong competition. Best Derwents sold at £10 to £10 10s , white" sorts, £0 15s to £10 5s ; small and medium quality, £7 to £9 10s per ton (sacks in)

Chaff.— The market has been more fully supplied. Prime oatem sheaf is still most popular with buyers at prices a shade below late 'quotations. Medium Quality has little attention, and is more difficult to quit. We quote : Prime oaten sheaf, £3 2s 6d to £3 5s , extra choice, to £3 7s 6d ; good do, £2 15s to £3 ; light and discolored, £2 5s to £2 10s per ton (hags extra). Straw.— We quote : Best oaten str a w, 32s 6d to 355; wheaten, to 30s per ton (pressed). Turnips.— The market is again glutted, and in 'order to clear oonsignmonts prices had to be accented which cannot he regarded as satisfactory to sellers. We qjuote: Best swedes, 10s t^er ton (loose, ex truck). Haiy — We quote : Best) clover and ryegrass,, £2 15s to £3 ; medium, £2 5s to £2 10s per ton.

Hens, 2s 63 to 3s 6d; roosters, 3s to 4s ; ducks, 3s to 4s per pair ; turkeys, hens, 5d to 6d ; gobblers, 7£d to 8d per ft (live weight). Note.— We receive consignments of produce for sale on commission, which has our best attention at all times. Messrs. Stronarh, Morris, and Co. report :— Oats.— There is a good demand for A and B grade sparrowbills and Garftons, and seefl lines' are halting more attention. Quotations : Choice seed lines, 2s to 2s 3d ; medium to goad, Is lOd to 2s ; prime milling, Is B£d to Is 9d ; good to best feed, lsi 7£d to Is B£d ; inferior to medium, Is 5d to Is 7d. Wheat.— The milling demand is slack, but fowl wheat is scarce and in good demand. Chaff.— The market has been better supplied during the week, biut the demand is still good for prime samples. Quotations : Prime oaten sheaf, £3 2s 6d to £3 5s (exlra to £3 7s 6d) ; good do, £2 15s to £3 ; light and discolored, £2 5s to £2 10s per ton.
