Nazarius and Celsus, Martyrs. 29, Saturday.— St. Felix 11., Pope and Martyr, St. Apollinaris, Bishop and Martyr. St. Apollinaris, first Bishop of Ravenna, and according to tradition, a disciple of St. Peter, suffered martyrdom during the reign of the Emperor Vespasian in tne first century. St. Vincent de Paul, Confessor, St. "Vincent de Paul was born in 1576. The indications of ability which he exhibited > led to his being sent to school at Toulouse. He was admitted to priest's orders in IbOO lie laid the foundation of what eventually grew into the gieat and iniiuential Congregation of Priests of the Missions.' Vincent's preaching was of the most samjple kind, singularly eftective and progressive. He founded the Order of the ' Daughters of Charity 'at Paiis in 1634. The Order is popularly known by the title of ' The Sisters of Charity, 1 or 'Grey Nuns,' and its members Lave won for their Order as'well as themselves the admiration, es-teem, and welldes.xved praise ot all nations for their gentle ministration to the sick and afflicted during times of war and peace. St. Vincent died at the advanced age of 85 at St. La/.are, September 27, 1600 ; and was canonised by Clement XII. in 1737. St. James, Apostle. St. James was a brother of St. John the Evangelist, aiid a near relative of the Blessed Virgin. After Pentecost he preached" to the Jews, who, having left Judea, had found homes in the neighbouring countries. According to a very ancient tradition lie is said to have voyaged to Spain, which honors him as its principal patron Coming to Jerusalem in 43, St. James was apprehended and beheaded by order of King Agriv pa, who in order to acquiie popularity among the Jews, j c secuted the Christians. St Anne, Mother of the Bles.ed Virgin Mary. St. Ani.e is pioposed to the faithful as a perfect mo icl of a wife and mother, .and as special patron of thos- who have entered into the rr 4 arried state, or are entrusted with the care of children. St. Veronica Juliana, Virgin. y,t. Veronica was a native of Mercatelli, a town in Italy. Having become a nun, she led during fifty years a life of extraordinary mortification and perfect obefdience. She died in 1727. SS. Victor 1., Innocent 1., Nazarius t and Celsus. Of these saints St. Victor, an African, • was martyre! in 202, during the reign of Septimus Sevejus. St iniKceiii governed the Church from 402 to 417; Saints Na/arius and Celsus sealed their faith with their blood at Milan under Nero. St. Felix 11., Pope and Martyr, St. Felix was Supreme Pontiff about the middle of the fourth century. No records of his life are extant.
