On Boxing Day his Lor,ds>hip the Bishop tendered a banquet tlo tihe representatives of the Federated Catholic Young Men's Societies. Tihe function topic place in Hioly_Crofcs College and was a pronounced swecess. In a.d|dition to the representatives there were present his Liordslhip the Bishop, the clergy of Dune/din a«rtd Mosgiel, the Rev. Father Claffey, S.C., Rev. Brothers Brady apid Ryan, t«he Hon. John Meiagiher, M.L.C., of BatjUurst, N.S. Wales, apd Messirs. Colum'b, sen., and O'Neill. The visitors we/re driven to Mosgiel i,n wagonettes tlhiDQiigh tihe picturesque hign road that winds into tihe Taieci Pliain.

In the course of an interesting and entertaining speech ■his Lordslhip passed a higih emlogjium upon the ilistinKuisihed visitor from Bathurst, w£o, ,ibe sa^d',\tPUs one of the best known men on the Australian oojitibeint. In illustration of his pofnt the speaker told how, on one occasion Mr. Dill'o'n, M.P., when about too set out for Batfourst, N.S.W., forgot the njame of the place. However, he boldly approached the booking uffite and demanded a ticket for ' Mr. John Meagher's town. 1 Without a mioment's hesitation the ticket cler.k handed him a ticket for Bathurst. Tihe anecdote, whjoh was exceedingly well told, created great merriment, in which tihe principal .quest of the day heartily joined. He replied witJh woedg of sound, patetfnal, and .pcactucal ad,vice to the y^ung men. Messrs. OoJumb and O'Neill al&o replied.
The toast of the Bishop was prqppsqd by Mr. Doyle (Timaru), who spoke in high terms of the aldmirable equipment of the Catholic Hall, D'unedtn, and of Holy Cross College, in which they were gathered. His Lordship Suitably replied, an|d, in the course of 'his remarks, paid a high oulogiiim to ttfie work and worth ol his illustrious predecessor.
The toast of the clergy was proposed by Mr. Shanley (Christchvarch) and replied to by Fatjher MiUTpihy. His Lordship the Bishoip spoke w.onds of high praise of tfhe ChTistiam Brothers in proposing tflieir health. Rev. Brofher Brady suitably replied. At intervals during the banqjuet the following items were rendered : Song ('Off to Philadelphia '), Mr. T. Hiussey ; song (' The Meeting of the Waters '),- Mr. Doyle (Timaru) ; recitation (' The womafa of three cows '), Mr. J* Callan.
The visitors expressed themselves highly delighted with the outing and the banquet, which sullied smoh a happy incident of their sojourn in Dimedin.
