Rev Father Bridge, of Sydney, preached on the Immaculate Conception at St. Patrick's CatJhedral om last Sunday evening.
Rev. Mother Ignatius, of the Order of the Sisters of Mercy, after several months' absience in Aoisitralia, returned last Sunday. Accompanying the Rev. Mother were fiour postulants for the Order here.
A no vem a m honor of the Immaculate Conception was begun at St. Patrick's Cathedral last Tuesday evening. 11 is Lordship the Bishop was present hi the sanctuary, also the Very Rev. Dr. Egan, 0.5.8., Rev. Fathers Patterson, Adm., H'olbraok, Digoan, and Cahill. Rev. Father Holhrook preached on the Jubilee of the Feast of the Immaculate Oonceptidn. Benediction of the Most Blessed Sacnament followed. Last evening the devotions wore continued. The Bishop was again present, as well as a good gathering of priests and people. Rev. Father McMillan, of St. Benedict's, was tihe preacher, the subject of his sermon belong the siouls im purgatJory. The following is a list of the heatis of sermons and the preachers during the remaining evenmgs of the noivena :— Thursday, the Holy Name of Mary (Rev. Fatheir Dignajn) ; Friday, ' Seven Dolors (Rev. Father McG'uiiness) ; Saturday, Devotion to Mary (Rev. Father Ca'hill) ; Sunday, The Rosary (Rev. Father Pattejgon) ; Monday, The Assumption (Very Rev. Dr. Egan) ; Tuesday,,' Children ol Mary (Very Rev. Father GilJa«n) ; Wednesday, Mortal Sin (Rigiht Rev. Mgr. O'Reilly. On Thursday there will be Pontifical High Mass, and «a sermon in the evening on the Immaculate Co/hception by Very Rev. Dean Hackett.
His Excellency the Governor, L'otfd Plufckett, visited yesterday the new home of the Little Sisters of the Poor, Shelly Beach Ro/ad, and was very favorably impressed with what he saw there. He sppke to several of tihe inrmateis, countrymen of his own, about Ireland, to the delight of the old people. The Governor afterwards visited the Sacred Heart College, Richmond Road, Ponsonby, and here also he was pleased with the fine building, and free, spacious grdunds attached' thereto. The Governor evidently en toyed these two visit©, and was a most keen observer in all things arcWnd him, and listonqd with attention to the infiornxatic/n imparted to the party.
