LIVE STOCK OTAGO FARMERS' HORSE BAZAAR
The Otago Farmers' Co-operative Association of New Zealand (Limited) report :—: — We held our usual weekly horse sale at our ba7aar on .Saturday last, when there was a splendid attendance ot buyers irom the country, and the bulk of the town carriers and traders were piesent, all of whom were Keen on business, and bid well for all young, good sorts onereoi. (Jne entry was made up mostly of useful plough and spring-carters. We had no young heavy draughts in the yard', although we had plenty of buyers for this class, as well as for van and spring-carters. The following are a lew of the prices obtained on Saturday :— Active spring-carters realised prices ranging from £27 to £,'57 ; lighter sorts, £22 to £26. A few hackneys brought good money up to £18/10/- ; these were onlymedium sorts. A few draught geldings (light) brought Irom £27 to £35. We quote : First-class draught mares and geldings, £55 to £65 ; lighter sorts, suitable for larm work, active and fresh, £45 to £50 ; van horses, same description, about same value ; spring-carters, £26 to £3 7 ; hackneys showing breeding and style, £25 to £30 ; useful buggy horses, £20 to £27 ; cobs, up to 15st, €25 to £i 0 ; well-matched carriage pairs, £80 to £100. ADDINGTON STOCK MARKET. Owin^ to heavy weather entries in most classes were small. Fat Tattle.— l7o were yarded, nearly all good quali ity. Steers : The demand was good, and pricete well maintained. Sixty-three North Island steers brought
£8/10/- to £14/10/- (three special) £9/17/6 to £15 others, £7/2/6 to £11/7/6 ; heifers, £6/7/6 to £7/10/- : cows, £7/7/6. Prices equalled 21/- to 26/- per 1001 b, up lo 27/6 tor special. *at Shocp.— Medium entry, comprised chiefly of good quality wethers and some prime, heavy ewes. The saleopened easier, but Jim shell well up to late rates Good to prime woolly wethers brought 25/- to 28/6 ; others, 22/- to 24/6 , prime woolly ewes, 25/- to 28/- , others 21/- to 24/6 , shorn wethers, 18/- to 21/3 ; ewes, 17/9 to 20/3 ; merino wethers (in wool), 17/1 to 24/11. Lambs —Only Hi were penned, keen competition resulting in increased prices. Best lambs brought 21/6 to 23/- ; olhers, 18/- to 21/- ; and a tew sold at 15/9. Pigs.— The entry was small, chiefly baconers and porkers coming forward, which met with good demand, but stores failed to hud buyers. Baconers made 45/- to 60/-, Jequal to lkl tio 4fd per lb ; porkers, fcß/- to,) 38/-, equal to 5d to 5i per lb.
