The Lihputian Pair held in connection wi*h the local schools provdd highly satisfactory in every way Indeed,, its popularity was surprising, and those who were dngage4 in ttie work received the hearty commendation of the public. Special thanks are deservedly due to t?hos© ladies arid gentlemen who donated handsome and costly articles for sale at the fair
The Literary and Debating Society has formed a Parliamentary Union, and the first session was opened last week, whein keen interest was taken in the business. The president, Mr. O'Brien, formed the frst Cafaunet and allotted the portfolios as follow •— Premier and Colonial Treasurer, Mr. L. W. J. Morton ■ Minister of qus;k>ms, Mr. D. J. Corcoran ; Minister of Lands, Mr. J., Robertson ; Postmaster-General, Mr J Mailvey MaridtHr of Railways, Mr. J. Aitken. Mr T. P Gilfedder was elected Leader of the Op/position, awd Mr T. Cavanagh Speaker. The policy of the Government was lucidly propounded by the Premier, and severely critilcifeed byi the Opposition, and after a ' caucus ' meeting had been held several Bills were introduced. Considerable soo'dnh'umored but forcible debating took place after which the measures passed into law.
