Death of Father Fauvel, Temuka
A cable message was received by Dean Foley on TiijesVlay from Sydney conveying the sad news of the death of the Rev. Father L. Fauvel, S.M., parish priest of Temiuka. Father Fauvel had been for about a quarter of a century in Temuka, where he was greatly esteemed by all classes, and held in the most affectionate regard 'by his own flock. He was a native of Normandy (Fratnce), where he was born over seventy years ago. Prior to his coming to New ZeaJand he spent ten years in the Fijian mission fiel-d, which he was obliged to leave in consequence of ill-health brought cm by the hardships incidental to the laborious work of a missionary in a tropical climate. During his time in Temiuka he built a fine stone church there, land another at Pleas&nt Point. He also introduced the Sisters of St. Joseph, who oonduct schools in both places. The deceased ha\d "been in failing health for some time, and suffered from heart troubles. He left for Australia a oouple of months ago in the hope that the change might be beneficial. Father Fauvel was an occasional contribjutor tjo the pages of the ' Tablet, 1 where his writings always attracted considerable attention. In his death the peojple of Temujka have lost a faithful and devoted pastor? alnd t(he diacese of Christchurch a zealous priest. — R.I.P.
