August 7 » The Zcalandia Hall was opened on Monday last Ly Mr. W. T. Wood, M II R , m the piesence of a vast concourse ot people of all denominations. Mr. Wood, vi a lengthy .speectli, stated that the Rev. Father Tymons a nd his congregation had the hearty congratulations oi the people ot Palmerstcm tor having buift s^it-h a magnificent hall. He understood it was the thud laigest building of its class m the Colony '1 he auditorium would seat JticMi and the galley AMI, then liieie. was a small gallery near the stage for the convenience ot musicians, 'whir h was a unique arrangement entirely originating with the lev. pastor The plans ot the building had been prepared b\ Mr. O'Doimell, aulutcjct, and mi R Malcolm vv<,.s the builder Both gentlemen had earned out their dunes in a high!} satisfactory manner. Mr. Wood then declared the /yealandia Hall open He called for three cheers for the Rev. Fattier Tymons, which were heartily given by the huge audience. , The Rev. Father T\ mons thanked the audience for making it such a huge success, and lie took it as a mark of their approval and appieciatiosi in connection with the erection of Hie hall. He thanked the performers lor their assistance, lie said the building was a fine one, and reflected great credit on Mr. O'Donnell, and expressed the hope that the Zealandia Hall, opened undersuch auspicious circumstances, would prove the success anticipated.
The opening ceremony being concluded the concert was commenced The programme was as follows :— Overture, orchestra , song/ ' The Veteran's song,' Mr A. Bennett , song, ' White moon,' Misk Daisy Wood ; song, ' The promise of life,' Mrs C. Loursson (encored) , song, ' Last muster,' Rev Father Ainsworth (encored) , song, l Jolly sailor,' Mr A Bennett , song, 1 Sunshine and rain,' Miss Darnells (encored) , song, 'Will o' the wisp,' . Rev Father Hills (encored); .song,' ' Hush my little one,' Miss C. Rush (encored) , song, Maid ot Athens,' Mr Buckingham (encored) , song, ' When buds go north,' Miss Cliflord , song, ' Che Faro ' Miss Darnells

A preety wedding took pla<c on Thursday last at St. Patrick's, when the Re\ Father Tv irons joined in the bond's of Matnmonv Mr M Norris^ Kairanga, and Miss Mary, second daughter of Mi John Huilev, of Foxton line Aftei the ceremony the wedding party adjourned to the Lyceum Theatre, where the wedding break! ast was laid. The presents, too numerous to particularize, were both uselul and costly, and showed the high esteem in which the joung couple were held in the district.
