The ' Lyttelton Times' ' St Louis coi lespondent refers as follows in a recent letter to movements of Aichbishop Redwood m Ameiica — ' \iehbisbop Redwood was hero for ton days When I saw him liis (irace was in excellent spirits, and in the best of health lie expressed himself as delighted with his trip. He left
St. Louis early in the 'week for St. Paul, where he was to make a stay with Archbishop Ireland, prior to continuing his tup to Britain and the Continent.'
The ' Lyttelton Times ' quotes the following American appreciation of Archbishop Redwood from the ' St Louis (Jlobe Democrat ' — ' Distinguished Prelate is a Skilled \ lolinist —Archbishop Redwood of New Zealand pla.\s a genuine Stradiv anus.— An unexpected pleasure was given to several persons of musical taste, who called at the archiepistopal residence to pay their respects to Archbishop Francis Redwood, of New Zealand, the guest of Archbishop (ilennon. Archbishop Redwood is a gittPd violinist, and has with him his Stradivarius, a genuine \iolin of that renowned make, which he has owned lor many years At the solicitation of his callers he rendered a beautiful " A\e Maria," and also the " Hymn to the Nativity," concluding his muchappreciated programme with " Robin Adair " and the melodies of a few other ballads.'
A very successful concert was given on the evening of the 2Sth ult in the Oddfellows' Hall, Leithficld, in aid of the Catholic church funds (St. Bngid's) of Loburn, recently enlarged and improved. Among the contributors to an excellent programme were Misses Chegwin and P Duncan, Meters. R. A. Home, R. Petersen, C Read, A. Zachanah, S. Johnson, and X Kavanagh. A humorous sketch, entitled ' The Registry Office,' terminated «.ne entertainment. The concert party ' was composed principally of friends from the city.
