A MUSICAL EDUCATION FOR HALF-A-CROWN. The above heading will, of course, appear to moat people as the height of absurdity ; }et the absurdity is more apparent than real It b-o£* without saying that a fini-hed n usual education in the regular course ca not be h.<i 'or half-a-crown,or even with seveial hundred additional half-crown ; but an it be truthfully said that the person -with a sufficient knowledge of music to play ac ompaniments on the pitmo or organ, to all the popular songs of the day, has no musical education ? Assuredly not A musical education suffii ient to enable one to play accompaniments to the songs sung- in the home frequently gets and gives more pleasure from the modest accompani naent than does many on whose education large sums have been extended. To the more mo lest musical education the above heading applies, tiuchan education the 'N.Z. Tablet* is now ottering its music-loving readers for half-a-crown, believing thatitisthe greatest benefit we caa give to our subscribers. This ready-made musical education consists of Pratt's Chart of Chords for the piano and organ, ■which is the nearest approach to the ready-made knowledge of music yet attained by science. It is a short cut to harmony, and it is to music what the multiplication table is to arithmetic, a quick method of learning to play the p ano or oigan without a teacher. With this Chart anyone can, with but a small amount of practice, loecome an expert pianist. It is a complete self-instructor, enabling anyone to play the piano or organ at sight, and to play without difficulty brilliant accompaniments to any song ever written. It is valuable to the advanced musician as well as to the beginner, embracing nearly every major and minor chord used in music; and is endorsed by teachers and musicians everywhere. Tins Chart is the practical result of years of study by Charles E. Pratt, the noted American comlOierniiu 1 musician, whose compositions have worldwide popularity, and si larger sale than those of any other American or European composer.
