The popularity of a young ln\orcai gillite was fittingly demonstt ated last week, when Mr T P. Gilfedder, of (he Government Valuation Department, was entertained on all sides pi ior to his departure for Wellington, he having boon piomoted to the head oflke One oi the most impoitant ' send-offs ' was a banquet tendered him by the oi!icors of the Grand Lodge ot Senators, Invercargill Division Gr. nd Sec Bio (! Corn >ack-, M O'Brien, T O'Bvrno, A. Macdonald, D. Corcoran, M O'Meara. and G W Woods, and the health oi 1 the departing guest was drunk wilh enthusiasm.

MJbrdock, presented Mr. Gilfedder with an address from all the athletic societies in Southland, ana. an address from lnvercargill citizens is to be sent to Wellington and presented to Mr. Gilfedder by Mr. Hanan M.H.R., on behalf of the people of lnvercargill. If the proceedings of the past • week are indications of popularity, then Mr. Gilfodder enjoyed the distinction of being one of the most popular young men of lnvorcargill. A large number of friends assembled at the railway station to say good-bye, and cheers were given for Mr. Gilfedder as the express moved off.
