June 18. The ' par,' which appeared in one of my letters concerning the incident on the Mapourika as she was about to leave Auckland upon her trip to the. islands with the Parliamentary party, was copied into the Sydney ' Bulletin,' and was read with delight by Mr. Parata, M H R and the Hon. Mr. Thompson at one of the islands -™. lmm car fatalities occur with painful regularity rhe latest victim was William O'Connell, struck down in Queen street. He was an old member of the Hibernian Society. He diod in the hospital. Several of the Society attended his funeral. On the same day on which poor O'Connell was injured, a little girl Eileen O Connor, was iuu uvt-r, and now lies in a precaiious condition in the hospital. The feast of Corpus Christi was celebrated in St Patricks Cathedral with greater solemnity than usual' Solemn High Mass was sung at 11 o'clock, the celebrant being Rev. father Patterson, deacon Father Buckley and sub-deacon Father Holbrook. The high altar was beautifully decorated with ilowers and candles. The music was Weber's 'Mass in G,' rendered in their usually eflicie»t manner by the choir, under Mr. P. F. Hi&cocks After Mass a procession of the Blessed Sacrament took, place The litany of the saints was sung by Monsignor Casier and the choir alternately. Adoration by the faithful was held throughout the day, and the children's devotions took place in the afternoon. At Vespers his Lordship the Bishop preached a iine sermon on the Blessed Sacrament. _ He said : You will note that our altars are decorated to-day. Non-Catholics wonder at all this and we should always be in a position to tell them why we do it. We really and truly believe in the Real Pi essence. We look at the Blessed Sacrament and see there the species of bread and wine, and our questioning is put aside, as our holy Faith teaches us that by the power of the Almighty it has been transformed into the Body and Blood of our Blessed Lord A\hile on earth He perlorined miracles of just as gieat magnitude, notably the multiplying of the loaves and the (i<-hes, and 1 coding irom them thousands of people .Scientists and other's scoft at this, and sa> that such a form is unworthy of His holy divinity, but lie came upon tins earth, and became Man.
