HIDE SALES.
Messrs. Stronach Bros, and Morris report as follows :—: —
We held our fortnightly sale of hides at our stores on Thursday, when there wos an average attendance of buyers. Late accounts from the Australian markets have been of such a desponding character that a fall here was anticipated, and such pro"\ed to be the case, as buyers were not inclined to purchase except on a basis of Id per ft) drop. The lighter classes of hides, which up till to-day had been bringing high values,
suffered similarly, and. in fact, taken all round, the sale was the worst we have experienced for some months. Our best prices were— for ox sfd per lb for one lot, 5d for two lots, and 4Jd for other two lots. In cow £l£? s c sold two lots at 5d - tn ese averaging 731 bto 671 b. Our catalogue comprised in all 413, and actual prices paid were as follows : Prime ox hides, 4*d to s*d: medium do, 4fd to 4sd ; light and inferior do, 3d to *%% ' p , r - v? coy ? *" des . 4 *d to 5d ; medium do, 3*d to 4Jd ; light and inferior do, 2*d to 3*d per lb ; yearlings, 2s to 4s Id each ; calfskins, 8d to Is lid
