June 24. ». M° n Monday evening, June 23, a most successful concert was held in the boys schoolroom in aid of the schools. The pupils of the parish (girls') school of the Sacred Heart were the ch"ef contributors to the programme, and rendered kindergarten SercLes choruses, etc , with marked evidences of their caref ul Sning ffi following gentlemen also contributed much to the success of the concert .-Messrs Jefferson, Eiby, McDonald, and Bennett all bein? encored for their vocal .terns, while the last-named was recalled three times for hia comic songs, which werp Rimer w,tv. 1 coaiieu of humor. M.as B. MoOumnei Si B E^n ffif, a"^^^ Rev Father Aubry had the instrument,! portion the two first-named opening with an overture. Miss Golding played the accompaniments for the physical-drill exercises in good X? m- vm n - U y gaV £ H BieleCti°a8 i eleCti ° a ° n the violiD < accompanied by' Miss E. McGuinness, who also played the accompaniments fo?tne other various vocal items during the evening. Amongst thaw nr« sent were the Rev Fathers Tubman and Le Petft The aSHuSS was what may be termed good and the whole concert a success One of the events of the past week was the celebration of the Feaet of St. John the Baptist, and also the birthday of our worthy pastor, the Rev. Father Tubman Preparations for a social evening were made in the girls' schoolroom and there the Rev. Father was presented, before a large number of the congregation with a purse of sovereigns by Miss M Mullin (on behalf of the Altar Society), and an address was read by Mr Patrick Keane, the latter expressing the congratulations of the congregation to the Rev. Father on the success of the many Xt? PS" h f , IDau^ ra j ed and successfully oarrtof Sf The Rev Father feelingly replied, and said the purse would be devoted to the necessary repairs and improvements in the schools Refreshments were handed round by the ladies and eeveral games' of ping pong, etc., were played. During the evening vocal and instrumental musical items were given by the following ladies and gentlemen : Mrs Lynch, Miss McGuinness. Messrs EibyT McDonald and Bennett (vocal items), Misses E. McGuinness, Egan and Dennehy (instrumental selections). As the meeting broke ud hearty cheers were given for the Rev. Father Tubman [This letter arrived too late for our last issue]. '.
