ROSS.
(From an occasional correspondent.) December 8. Our fellow Catholics in Rimu are, I hear, renovating their church. The local Church Committee are sparing no expense in making St. Patriok'n a better structure than ever. Instead of the flimsy scrim and papering, the church is to be boarded and varnished from top to bottom. Our worthy priest, Father Bogue, is indefatigable in hig efforts, and the work, which will be finished by Christmas, - will be a lasting souvenir to his zeal. West Coasters are, of course, proud of the Premier, and his visit to Ross on Tuesday last was made the occasion of a more than hearty welcome. He was met at the Half-Way House by the Mayor and councillors, and on his arrival in town was greeted by hearty cheering. The commencement of the working of the deep leads of the Ross Flat has been for years past the hope of the people here. A new era has apparently set in, as a wealthy and powerful syndicate from your part of the world has taken the matter in hand, and a six months' option having been given we are once more living in hopes of a restoration to that state of prosperity whic^i should have been ours long ago. We are of course, all anticipation, and trust that our hopes will be realised.
