WANGANUI.

(From our own correspondent.) November 3. The Sacred Heart Convent, at the recent Trinity College musical examinations, was very successful. An address and presentation will shortly be given to the Rev. Father Tymons, who a few weeks ago was transferred to Palmerston North. The funeral of the late Mr. Charles Whelan took place last Sunday afternoon, and was followed by an exceptionally large number of people. The members of the A.S.R.A. headed the funeral procession. Numerous wreaths and other floral tributes were sent by sympathising friends, thus testifying to the general esteem in which the deceased was held. The Very Rev. Dean Kirk read the burial service, at the conclusion making a few touching remarks regarding the many estimab'e qualities of the deceased. Mrs. Whelan, through the columns of the papers, expressed her deep gratitude to all those who so kindly showed their sympathy with the family in their sad bereavement. — R.I. P.
