INVERCARGILL CATHOLIC LITERARY SOCIETY.
(From an occasional correspondent.) Tin: usual weekly meeting of the recently formed Catholic Literary Society was held on Monday evening, Ist November. Brother Dunstan accupied the chair in. the ab-cm-e of the president the Very Rev. Dean Burke (who, by the way. is attending the opening of the Cathedral in Melbourne). A laryo number of members were present, and after the minutes of the previous meeting had been read and confirmed and other general business gone through, recitations were given by Messrs T. Gillooly, W. Shepherd, and R. McCarthy, and a parluumntary speech by Mr. J. Shepherd. All of these gentlemen acquitted themselves very creditably indeed. Although the Society has been but a short period in existence the membership is strong, and it is hoped by next session to have it a thoroughly establibhf d society. A vote of thanks to Brother Dun stan brought a very enjoyable meeting to a clooe.
