Ma. Henry Driver (on bohalf of tho New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co.) reports for the week ending February 7, a follows :—: — Fat Cattle— l2o head came forwa<-d at the sales to-day, chiefly of good prime quality, and sold at about last week's rates. Best pons of bullocks brought from £10 10s to £14, do cows, £7 to £10 103— or equal to 30s per 1001 b. Fat Calves — None forwarded. Fat Sheep— l2oo were penned, and all sold at late quotations. Best cross-breds brought from 10s 6d to 12s each, or equal to about 2idperlb. Fat Lambs -Only 100 penned, and sold at 8s 6d to 10s 6d each. Store Cattle— No alteration to note in this description o( stock, nor any description of stock, nor any transactions of importance to report Quiet, well-grown bullocks nviy bo quoted at £7 to £3 8s • do cows, £4 10s (o £6 10s. ' Store Sheep.— -There is no change to report in prices. We have eeveral large transactions pending, at following quotations • Meriuo wethers, 2, 4, and 6-tooth, 5a to 5s 6d ; do., full-mouthed, 3s 6d to 4*merino ewes, 2, 4, and C-tooth, 6s to 7s ; do, full mouthed, fe 6J to 3s 6d ; cross-breds, 4- tooth and ovw, 7s to 8s ; do, 2-tooth, 6* to 7s Sheepskin*. -We had only a small catalogue— 7so skins— on Monday, which sold at full rates, mostly dry and station skins— 6i to 7d per ]b ; lambs', Is to Is 8d ; pelts 6d to 8d each. Hides.— We have good enquiry for hide?, both for local tanneries and shipping. Quotations, for wet salted, 3£d to 4J. Tallow.— Wet weather prevented our sale this week. Djinand good, at late ra'es. Grain.— Tho unprecedented destructive storm which has passed over the greater portion of our grain distiicts the last few days has completely upset all busness. Prices are completely nominal iv the meantime. Mr. Skene reports for the week ending February 7, 1877 :— Everything in the labor market is at a complete stau I st-ll— nothing doing but patching up the damage done by tho floods. It is up-hill work with farmers niakiug the best of damaged crops ; very hard lines indeed with them. Work is plentiful if men could only get. at it Town trade it still quiet. Fema'e servants are in great demand" Couples are quieter than usual. Male hotel servants are i.i fair request Storemen and clerks ure seldom needed. Wages — Couples, £65 to £80 ; farm hands, including harvest, 20*, 255, and 30s per week • dairy and odd hands, 15s and 20? per week ; tillers and stackers, 40a and upwards; carpenters, 10s to 13s per day j house girls, 10s to 15shotel girls, 12s, 15s, and-20s ; cooks, waiters, gardeners, &c, 25s to 50d per week. Blr. A. Mebcer reports as follows for the week ending Feb™ <rv 7 1877, retail prices only :— Fresh butter, in £ and lib prints, li Id to Is 3d ; fresh butter, in lumps, 10J to lid ; powdered and salt butter Is ; fresh butter is not now so plentiful, an.l prices are expected fo advance. Cheese, new prime, Is ; old cheese, good, lOi to Is Side and rolled bacon, lOd ; Colonial hams, Is 2d ; English hams, Is 6d • eggs are now scarce, and retailing at Is 6 J per dozen. ' ' Mr. M. C. Fleming reports (wholesale price?) f jr tho week ending February 7, 1877, as follows: — o<Us (feed), per bushel 2* Id to 2s 2d ; milling, 2s 3d. Wheat (chicks) 3s GJ to 4s. 13 nler multing, 4s to 4* 6d; feed, 2s 3 1 to 2s 6d. Pollard, £G 10s. Bran £5, bags included. Flour, krgebags, £15 ,• small, £15 10. Oatmeal' £11. Potatoes, new, 4s to 4* Gs per cwr. Uay (new), £3 10$ ■ old hay, £i per ton. Chuff, £4 per ton. Sliuw, t2 per ton. ' Mr. J. Yezey reports for the week ending February 7, 1877: — detail: Roast beef, 6d to 8d per Ib. ; boiling do., 4d to s<i p.-r l'b • stewing do., 4.1 toGd per lb.; steak, Gd to <X1 per lb.; mutton, 3d to 6i per lb.; veal, 4d to SJ per lb.; pork, 9.1 to lOd per lb ; lamb, 3s aud 4s per quarter.
