Henry Dbivsb, on behalf of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, reports as follows for the week ending July 12, 1876:— Fat Cattle— The market to-day was short supplied with 120 head, cliieGy good to prime quality ; and as the trade was somewhat out of beef, the bidding was brisk, a, decided improvement in price being obtained. Beat pens of bullocks brought from £12 10s to £16 7s 6i j ditto cows, ±103 10s to £15. Fat Sheep. — 1,600 came forward, and although this may be considered a short supply, the prices obtained scarcely dime up to last week's quotations. We quote best crosa-breds at 12* 61 to 15s 91. or nardly ad per lb. Store Cattle. — We hare no alteration to report, but would draw attention to the sale of 200 head at Mosgiel to-morrow, 13th instant. Store Sheep. — No business to note. Wool. — Some ol the anxiety aa to the future course of the wool trade has been relieved by cablegrams to-day, announcing the probability that the peace of Europe would not be disturbed at the present time ; but until the cable gives information of the opening of the June* . July series of London wool Bales, it would be idle to estimate probable results. In the meantime no business can be done in this market. Sheepskins. — At our usual weekly auction this afternoon soles were brisk, and fullest values obtained, butchers' green oross-breds bringing 4a Id ; dry ditto, 2s lid to 3s 7d. Hides weie in better demand, and last week's rates fully maintained. W» sold 170 wet salted- at an average of 3f d per lb. — say, ' inferio, 143 to 16s ; medium, 18s to 21s. Tallow. — None offered. Grain. — Wheat : Finest milling is much wanted ; prices harden* ing ; 4a 9d freely paid foor good wheat : 4s 6d to 4s 8d for secondary samples; inferior, 4s 4d. Oats: There has been little domain, this grain during the last week, paitly owing to coastal freight. Melbourne market has quite broken down ; prices nominal where sales forced. This market, however, remains without change, and we have no alterations to make in our present quotations — say Is 8d ito Is 9J for good to heavy feed, and la 101 for milling simple?. Barley: There, has been more inquiry, and more business done both in malting and milling ; secondary samples 3d 9d to 4s : prime, 4* 6i ; choice, none.' Mb. Skbne reports for the week ending July. 12; as follows :—: — Affairs in the labor market have brightened up considerably-; in. fact, things vary with the weather. There is an increased enquiry for ttatioa and farm couples ; also for ploughmen. Shepherds iure quiet. Carpenters, blacksmiths, bakers, masons, bricklayers &c, are only, kept moving, but winter weather breaks their time aul pay sadly. Far too many know-nothing in particular men are lounging about, and cannot do the work offered. Female servants of all sorts are much wanted, with knowledge of plain house work. Shopmen, clerks, &c., unlesa first-class are little valued. Wages —Couples, £65 and £7o ; shepherds, £65 and £70 ; ploughmen, £52, £55, and £430 ; carpenters, lOi, 12s, and 13s ; bricklayers, 14a ; day labor, 7s, Bi, 9i, and 10j ; dairy anJ odd hands, 15s and 20s; house girls, 10j, 12s, and. 15s j hotel girls, > 15s. 20s, and 30s ; boys and girls, 6i to 10s per week. Mr. A. Meecek reports as follows for the week ending July 12, 1876, retail prices only : — Fresh bivter, in $ and 1 lb. prints, 2s to 2s 2J ; fresh butter, in lumps, Is9dtj Is 10d; pjtvdcred and salt butter, Isßii to Is9d. Fresh butter is very scat cc, aud the market at.prt-s.mt is barely supplied. Salt butter is plentiful and selling well. Cheese, best quality, Is 2d per lb ; side uud rolled bacon, Is to [I* Id ; Colonial hams. Is 3d; English hams, Is 61 to Is Bd. Eggs' selling Wt.ll, but not so plentiful, 2s to 2* 31 per doz. „._.
