Financially it was also successful, as much as £700 having been subscribed for liquidating the debt remaining on the college. After mass, at which the Rev. William Kelly, of the Society of Jesus, Melbourne, preached, luncheon was served up in excellent style in a spacious marquee at the western side of the college. About 400 ladies and gentlemen sat down at the tables. Among the addresses was one from the co-adjutor Archbishop, Dr Vaughan.
