A part of the speech of Mr Leary, a candidate for the Caversham ' district, is well worthy of reproduction. Alluding to the educational question, he said he did not wish a better system than the present one. There was one matter with which some of them might not quite agree with him In populous places like Dunedin, for example, where more school accommodation was required, if it could Jbe shown one section of the community ha<? conscientious objections to either the books or the system, he would provide schools and teachers in accordance with their views. — (Applause.) The ' Arrow Observer ' says that, when the dissolution was aft 1 *" nounced, only one opinion was expressed, -that our late member,' Mr Httllenstein, would stand no chance *f re-election, and the delay and inconvenience to public business in consequence of the dissolution was overlooked in view of the opportunity afforded of getting rid of the obnoxious member. , ' '■" Messrs Reid, Shand, Allairand Webb offer themselves for the Taieri, Mr John McNeill for ,the Clutha, the Hon.
