SPECIAL NOTICES.
Body of Child found. Palmerston North. —On the 20th instant the dead body of a new-born female European child was found on the edge of the Oroua Bridge at Awahuri. The body was wrapped in a piece of sheeting which had been machine-patched, a “ Manawatu Times ” newspaper of 19th instant, part of a “ Manawatu Standard ” newspaper of Bth April last, and part of the “ Hawcra Star ” newspaper of 17th instant which had the name “ Campbell ” written in pencil on the front page in the top right-hand corner. The whole were contained in a brown-paper bag which also included some fish and chips and a catheter of brown rubber about 9 in. long. A post-mortem examination revealed that the child was of about seven months’ gestation, that the mother probably was a small woman or a woman who was not well nourished, that it was probably a first child, that it had lived, and that death was due to no proper attention at birth. The umbilical cord and afterbirth were still attached. Death had apparently occurred within eighteen hours of the finding of the body, but the child could not have been alive more than a few minutes. Any information likely to assist in discovering the parents of the child is to be communicated to the Inspector of Police, Palmerston North. brtJLfcvt/ 30 /b vz>-
