TATISTICALLY speaking this youngster will lay claim to 4 of a ton of oil and oil-derived products this year. Everyone else in New Zealand will do the same because 3 of 2 ton is the estimated amount of these products which will be consumed per person in this country during I957. The uses of oil products are many and varied. First that comes to mind is, of course, petrol for cars: Heating fuel iS another you may think of quickly. But Where' $ there are hundreds of uses which would my 8 ton of oil? never come to mind. Oil derivatives are used in the manufacture of nylon stockings, cosmetics, plastics, antiseptics, chemicals, paints, varnishes: in fact oil's with uS even in the smallest of household articles. Shell research is ever discovering more and more uses for oil and oil-derived chemicals- New products are developed, old ones are improved and everyone stands to gain from the skill and resources of Shell scientists. You can be sure of 'SHELL PRZ.7
