COCK O' THE SOUTH!
ANTY, this week’s cover bird, is a new radio personality at 4ZA, and the pride and joy of hundreds of children. Every morning at 8.10 he preens his golden feathers and with the duty announcer as interpreter talks to the many listeners who have come to look forward to his daily appearances at the
microphone. Usually he has some adventure to relate, such as spring-clean-ing the studio, cooking the announcer’s breakfast, or making a fool of himself at the circus. So far he has shown no Gesire to become a-football hero, following Mooloo’s example, although it is claimed that he did once attend a Rugby game where he got mixed up in the pack. A player going over the line for a try between the posts was most surprised when the "ball" suddenly flew out of his hands and perched on the crossbar. Banty’s adventures all point a moral, and parents and teachers have shown their appreciation of the warnings that his experiences give to children. Banty’s fan mail averages about 50 letters a week, and he has already received among other things parcels containing wheat, bars of chocolate, and even a jar of live worms. As far as his age is concerned he is not giving even the smallest cackle, although it has been decided that his birthday fell on February 29. It’s said that 4ZA is not altogether looking forward to coping with the celebration of the anniversary in 1960.
