BOILED PUDDING

QUARTER pound of grated carrot mixed with % Ib. of sugar soaked overnight, Then mix with 4 Ib. flour, 14, Ib. finely-crumbled breadcrumbs, Vy lb. butter rubbed into dry ingredients, 1 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon mixed spice, 1 teaspoon baking soda dissolved in Vy cup (or more) milk, 1 grated apple, 1 egg, 1 Ib, mixed fruit. Steam for 3 hours, Serve with sauce or cream.

Turn the mixture into the prepared basin, cover with butter paper and steam for 142 hours. Honey Bread Custard Rub into crumbs about 4 oz. of stale bread and soak in boiling milk-about a pint. Beat 3 eggs well and stir in

about 4 or 5 tablespoons of honey. Mix all lightly together, adding the grated rind of a lemon, and bake in a moderate oven. Stand the dish in a pan of water so that the custard will not curdle.
