ALF cup shortening, 1 cup brown sugar, 2 egg yolks (unbeaten), 2 cups sifted flour, 1 teaspoon baking soda, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 2 teaspoon each of cloves and nutmeg, 1 cup thick unsweetened apple sauce.
