Posting Cooked Poultry
Dear Aunt Daisy, Could you please tell me if it is possible to send cooked chicken through the | post without deterioration. My younger brother (who is going into camp) is twenty-one next month and we thought it would be a treat if we sent him down some chicken. We had thought of wrapping it in tinfoil, the kind you buy for sandwiches, etc.; and putting this in a cake tin. If this is unsatisfactory, could you please tell us of any other way of
posting this in safety.-

Here is the only reply that came in. Regarding the lady who enquired if she should send chicken through the post. My sister worked in a country post office for 10 years and I remember her telling me how, in the duck-shooting season, friends would’send to others ducks (prepared for cooking). Send "express transit." The country place where my sister was is 35 miles from Christchurch and ducks posted at or by 3.30 p.m. today, reached friends in Wellington tomorrow morning. So I’m sure that uncooked ducks reaching Wellington in perfect condition sounds a good advertisement for the lady who will be sending a cooked article! -Living and Learning, Christchurch.
