RADIO PORTRAIT OF G.B.S.
‘THE attitude of Shaw to men and women, to money and his family, his generosity, his vanity, his shyness and his showmanship, are some of the things considered by contributors to George Bernard Shaw: An Irish Portrait, which will be heard this week in ZB Sunday Showcase. The portrait of Shaw is drawn from the recorded memories and opinions of some of his countrymen, and is edited and introduced by W. R. Rodgers. Among those who take part are the Irish dramatists St. John Ervine and Denis Johnston; Lady Hanson, who recalls a long family acquaintance with the Shaws in Dublin; her mother Mrs. Tyrell, a centenarian, who remembers Shaw at the age of ten playing with a toy theatre; and Lord Glenavy, who tells of the night, 57 years later, when Shaw finished his play. St. Joan, Others whose recorded voices are beard in the feature are Oliver St. J. Gogarty, Frank O’Connor, L. A. G. Strong, Professor T. Bodkin, P. J. Kerwan, Sean MacReamoinn and Father Leonard.
