FOREST FIRES IN NEW ZEALAND Last year 10,239 acres of State Forest were destroyed by fire_ This is the greatest area destroyed since 1946 the year of the Taupo fires. In spite of a very dry season the actual number of fires was not unduly great, and half the damage was caused by the Balmoral fire.
