LA NEW cance band series, featuring Lew Campbell's Orchestra, is now | being heard from 1YA on Tuesdays at | 7,25 p.m., and from 1YD on Saturdays 'at 7.9 p.m, The band consists of | Murray Tanner, Neville Blanchett, Ned | Bruce (trumpets); Dale Alderton, Neil | Dunningham, Leo Abrahams (trombones); Colin Martin (alto), Bart Stokes, James Watters (tenor), and Terry Waterfield (baritone) comprise i the sax section; and for rhythm there's | Lew’s brother George on bass, Crombie Mur. och on piano, and Ray Edmondson on drums, Mary Feeney sings, the compere is John Rainer, and Lew Campbell himself plays trumpet. This is the fourth radio dance band to be led by Lew Campbell since 1949, He hes also led two small modern groups---a sextet, and the Shortland Five. which broadcasts monthly from 1¥YD, Lew studied music at Auckland University College for three years, and he also studied harmony in the Kiwi Concert Party under conductor Terry Vaughan, When Vaughan left the Kiwis, Lew became their conductor for two years and a half. Lew plays some fine trumpet. He was coached in Italy during the war by a famous American teacher, Nello Cammalario.
