POETRY READINGS
Sir,-Listening to poetry readings from 2YC, I wondered why speakers should use unnatural, awed, sepulchred tones, as if the words were too deep for human ears. I understand that poetry should have music or sense, preferably both. Poetry read naturally should, I think, make these qualities, if present, evident. Enunciation is surely as im-
portant .as_ in prose reading. "To popularise verse reading I suggest the use of narrative works .of Tennyson, Longfellow, and especially Masefield.. Fine lyrics after all need repeated hearing or "reading to be appreciated.
