Aria Prize-money Doubled
HE 1956 City of Sydney Eisteddfod will be held from September 17-21, and am announcement has just been madé that the prize money in the Sun Atia Contest in the Eisteddfod has been doubled, and now totals £1000. Of this £600 wi ‘awarded as first prize; the balance -5F. Will beldistributed as two prizes" of £100 each, three prizes of £50 each, and two prizes of £25 each. Thé contest will be open as if previous years to both amatetit and professional singets, men and women (a) born in Australia or New Zealand, or (h) ¢itizens of the Commonwealth of ltitish Nations by birth or naturalisation, who have been domiciled in Australia or New Zealand for at least six years before the opening date of the 1956 Histeddfod, The age limits are 17° years to 30th birthday. Arias must be_ stig in English or in the original langiiage, and must be sung in the original key. The Eisteddfod Council has also decided that the first test pieces in the Open Piano Championship and in the Juvenile Piario Championships shall be numbers by Mozart. In the eight Adult Vocal Championships it has been the custom of the Eisteddfod to set a raodern art song as item (a) and a classical aria as item (b); this year, however, the (b) item shall be any aria by Mozart, whethér from a familiar Grand Opera. or from anv other c@nposition by Mozart. The Syllabus will be issued in May, atid copies will be sent (free, postage 3d) to any inquirers.
