Pacific Women's Conference

2OR a fortnight in late January and early February women from all over the Pacific area met together for the Pan-Pacific Women’s Association Conference in Manila, the capital of the Philippines. Twelve delegates from New Zealand attended the Conference, and among them were two Maori women. One of these was Miss Mira Petricevich, a representative of the Maori Women’s Welfare League, who is to give an account of the Association’s importance to Maori women in the YA, 1YZ and 2YZ Women’s Sessions. Miss Petricevich’s talk will be the second in a series of short reports from four of the delegates to be heard at 11.0 a.m. in the week beginning February 28. First to speak will be Dr. Moana Gow, of Dunedin, whose topic is. the participation of women in social and economic life, and the education of women and girls. Miss Petricevich will be heard the following day, and then Mrs. S. A. Jackson, of Waverley, who represents the country women of New Zealand, speaks of the ideals and problems of economic interdependence on Thursday, March 3, Finally, on the Friday, Miss Mary McLean, of Christchurch, a well-known City Councillor, sums up the work of the 1955 PanPacific Women’s Conference.
