INSIDE SANDHURST
"SERVE TO LEAD," the motto of the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst, gives the title to a BBC programme about the training of the British Regular Army officer, which is to be heard from 2YA at 9.30 am.

Illustrated with recordings made at Sandhurst, the programme includes part of an address on "The Qualities of a Good Officer," which was given on the parade ground there some years ago by’ Field Marshal Sir William Slim. Others whose recorded voices are heard are the Senior ‘Chaplain, the Rev. Guy Whitcombe, and R: S. M. ~Lord; Grenadier Guardsman, parachutist and permanent Regimental Ser-geant-Major of the Whole Academy. The central figure and narrator of Serve to Lead is. an anonymous ~Officer Cadet who was 19 when he _ first reached Sandhurst. He
shares his first impressions with listeners and goes on to give them some idea of the military-academic system of training through which he _ passed during his 18 months’ course. The programme, which was written by P. R.
Boyle, who was himself at Sandhurst, ends with a discription of the impressive Sovereign’s’ Parade, after which the Senior Division, marching off the Sandhurst parade ground for the last time, is followed up the steps through the lofty portico of the Grand Entrance by the Adjutant riding his grey horse.
