Spilled Orange Cordial
Dear Aunt Daisy, I would be grateful if you would advise me how to get a stain out of My green carpet without affecting the colour of the carpet. One of the children spilt some orange cordial on it and also on my dress. The dress is a_ silky material, and the stain came out with just a little water, but the carpet, alas! I have sponged with no result.

Be very careful not to use anything which will spoil the green colour of the carpet. You could try the old-fashioned, but safe, starch paste-ordinary starch powdered finely and mixed to a stiffish paste with cold water, Plaster this well over the stain, moistening again with a little cold water as it dries. After 24 houts or so, brush it off with a stiff brush, and sponge with cold water, Repeat if necessary. Starch paste does remove real fru:t stains also. Probably a final gentle scrub with a weak solution of carpet shampoo would be a good idea.
