The composer of "Holiday for Strings" first called "‘"Monoteny for Strines’’ because of the repetition of the theme. will be heard from 38ZB tonight at 9.47. * * * Before 1932 the industrial town of Luton was known for the hats, cars and machinery manufactured there. Since then, however, the name Laton has come to be associated with music making, through the efforts of Arthur E. Davies, founder and conductor of the Luton Girls’ Choir. Their first broadcasts were in 1938 and the N.Z. public first came to hear their records soon after the war. They were the stars of the Royal Command Variety Show in 1948-and were Queen Mary’s favourite broadcasting artists. They may be heard from 4ZB at 4.30. : x * & 2ZA’s "Evening Star,’ broadcast | at 6.30, features recordings by the Hungarian tenor, Miklos Gafni.
