Music from Belgium
"T HE music library of the NZBS recently received a generous gift of the scores of works of contemporary Belgian composers from the Belgian Legation in Wellington. There are violin concertos by René Defossez and L. de Vocht, a piano concerto by R. Chevreuille, and other piano and violin works by Toussaint de Sutter and Marcel Poot. Seven works have been donated by the Legation on behalf of the Belgian Government, and one of them, the Chevreuille Piano Concerto, won first prize at an International Piano Competition held in Brussels in 1952. The Defossez Violin Concerto was also presented at an International" Violin Competition held in Brussels in 1951. An ‘interesting work in the group is Defossez’s piano suite for children, Caprices de ma Poupée. Toussaint de Sutter contributes a Toccata for piano, Marcel Poot a Ballade for violin. and piano, and Chevreuille a Sonatine for piano.
