BACH CHORALE PRELUDES
(GEORGE EVERISS, director of music at the Wanganui Collegiate School, has recorded at the organ in the school chapel two programmes: of Bach’s Chorale Preludes. These will be broadcast from YC and YZ stations, starting from 2YC at 10.5 p.m. on Tuesday, September 14. Mr. Everiss also discusses the music of these organ works, which he regards as Bach’s most intimate compositions, his "first and final utterance."
The organ on which Mr. Everiss plays the Chorale Preludes (he is seen above at the console) is among the larger church organs:in the country, and is heard to fine effect in the large space of the school chapel. It is said to be an ideal recording or broadcasting instrurhent owing to the good acoustics of the building in which it is housed. The organ is played from a detached console and is situated in the West End gallery of the chapel.
