WILLIAM SATCHELL
Sir-In his interesting article "Behind the Greenstone Door" (Listener, July 25), P.J.W. states, "Samuel White is a name he made up by reversing his own initials, but there is no obvious reason for the introduction of the middle name Cliall." The real fact is my father did not write under the aforesaid title, but under that of Saml. Cliall White which you will realise is an anagram of his real name. I am ignorant of any other pseudonyms my father may have used. The Other Inmate appeared, I believe, in serial form, through at least one of the daily papers. In 1936, the year before my mother’s death, my father in his old age saw a dream come true, the re-publication of two of his books, The Greenstone Door and The Land of the Lost, For this I am thankful.
