THE MAN WHO WATCHED TRAINS GO BY

(Eros Films-Raymond Stross) HAVEN'T read the Georges Simenon thriller on which this film is based, but I’m assured by one who has that it’s much better than Harold French’s script and direction manage to convey. The film

makes a promising start, but after the first reel or two settles down to a relatively sober pacé--for .a thriller, anyway. Allthe satie, think most filmgoers-will follow with Sonmie"ifiterest (as I did) the story of the little clerk, dreaming of dis--tant places, who suddenly finds himself | in Paris with a lot of money anda beautiful, unscrupulous woman, and will admire (as I did) the playing of Claude > Rains in the title part. He has some | good sypport, too, and the film at times has quite an atmosphere.
