VOICE AND PIANO

Sir,-The true appeal of Schumann songs lies in the exquisite combination of voice and piano parts. On Sunday, June 6, a studio recital of four songs from the Dichterliebe was advertised. The singer allowed herself. such a phenomenal degree of lattitude in her interpretation as to make the songs almost unrecognisable. Fhe piano accompaniment consisted of a series of random chords that were definitely not Schumann, This performance should have been advertised as an arrangement of the Schumann songs and to my mind should not have been broadcast by 4YC

at all.
