A MATTER OF OPINION

Sir-1I would like to protest against a broadcast I listened to on Sunday, May 16, from 1YA at 4.30. This session is The Arts in Auckland. When, as frequently, it is conducted by competent critics, it has interest and appeal for many. But when it descends, as in the instance I complain of, to the expression of opinions couched in insulting terms, surely it is time something was done to supervise more carefully the choice of members of the so-called panel. Everyone is entitled to his opinion, but surely it is not permissible, over the air at least, to indulge in rudeness and insulting personal remarks, in this case directed at a group of amateur players who must have worked painstakingly for six or eight weeks, and who, in spite of Mr. Fairburn’s remark about adolescence, provided considerable entertainment for a large number of the public.
