This unusual nickname was first applied to him when he was serving in the Army. His hair was cut off and his head shaved when he entered the training depot. When he returned to Paris on leave he was asked to sing at a cabaret where he had frequently entertained while a civilian. Just before he went on he remembered that he was practically bald, so, borrowing a battered felt hat he. stepped on to receive a tremendous reception. Since then he has been known as "Le Chapeau." Charles Trenet will be heard in popular French songs from 3ZB at 10.15 this evening. sf — In 1940 a young, handsome baritone, 1 Gordon MacRae, won a magazinesponsored contest and a_ two-week engagement at the New York World Fair. That was his stepping-stone to fame. 4ZB brings you recordings by him at 9.15 p.m. SE REP Se ama Ce
