COMING ROUND THE BEND

[Ts curious that some people can apparently go through the mill forever, and never emerge as good coffee. UT, of course, there was the man who didn’t dare weigh himself lest he found himself wanting. "ACTUALLY," said a friend, "I’ve got a job as a slushy in a restaurant, but I much prefer to be alluded to by my proper union designation of Assistant Fourth Cook." OME cartoonists these days have such a conceit of themselves that their signatures are nearly as big as their cartoons. If this is high humour I prefer it low. OVERHEARD a farmer explaining that he had had to a cut a sheep's throat to stop it from dying. OME time or another one has to decide whether to be ruthlessly hardheaded and gain people’s respect, or be a decent fellow and gain their affection. MAN I know told me he hated women, because they were the only things in the world worth hating.
}]UNDREDS of pounds must have been spent on teaching me Latin, and now the only Latin word I can remember is Quid. \V ELLINGTON is a place where it is not necessary to have conventional manners: it is only possible to wear your hat indoors. HERE is surely something decadent about doors that revolve by’ themselves. If a man can’t push his way through revolving doors he deserves to stay out in the cold. AVE you ever met people who can make the most beautiful home quite uninhabitable? — \V HERE you can say to your host, _ "Thanks, but I prefer the welcome on the face, not the mat." "TALKING about student labour in the long vacation, a farmer said, "With me an M.A. cuts no ice, and a B.A. cuts no gorse." G nah Neath about Coming Round the Bend, I had to explain that it was an attempt to get straight to the point. ---
